The Tote Placepot is a fantastic pool bet which gives you the chance to win big from a stake as small as 50p.

The challenge is to select horses to place in the first six races at a specific race meeting.

If you meet this challenge you will win a share of the Placepot fund, which can total over £1 million at the big festival meetings like the Cheltenham Festival.

The dividend is determined by the total amount staked on the Placepot and how many winning tickets there are.

What classes as a place for the Placepot?

The finishing positions which count as a place in any leg of the Placepot depend on how many runners are in the race.

Unless otherwise stated the counting places are: -

• 2-4 runners : 1st
• 5-7 runners : 1st & 2nd
• 8-15 runners : 1st, 2nd & 3rd
• Non-handicap of 16 or more runners : 1st, 2nd & 3rd
• Handicap of 16 or more runners : 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th

Placepot Perms

You have the flexibility to select multiple horses in each race to increase your chances of winning the Placepot. However, the more horses chosen, the higher the cost of the bet.

To calculate your total stake you can multiply the number of selections in each leg - or just let the Tote website calculate it for you as you make your selections.

For example if you selected 3 horses in the 1st leg, 2 in the 2nd, a single horse in the 3rd, 4th & 5th and then 2 in the last your total stake would be (3*2*1*1*1*2) 12 times your stake per line.

The minimum stake per line is just 1p and the minimum total stake is 50p when placing you bet with Tote.

Non-Runners in your Placepot

If one of your selections is a non-runner, you stake will be move on to the starting price favourite. If there are joint favourites, then the selection will move onto the one with the lowest card number.

Placepot Tips

Find a few bankers - legs where you only select one horse. This will reduce your number of permutations and allow you to select more horses in the legs you are less confident about.

The big dividends come when favourites fail to place. Keep that in mind when making your selections.
